PreMatch Data

About

PreMatch Data looks at football matches through their records, before they are played. We keep roughly 16,000 Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 matches since 2017-18 in a database (about 45,000 including cups, European competitions and second divisions), and for every fixture in a round we present both teams’ records in the same format.

What you will find

  • Key numbers: league position, goals and expected goals (xG) this season, possession, shots, last season’s win rate (W-D-L), head-to-head record, manager record, previous match
  • Recent games and head-to-head: the latest results with xG across all competitions, the last ten meetings, and an H2H profile (goals per game, share of 3+ goal and both-teams-scored games, time of first goal, bookings, red cards and penalties)
  • Conditional data: days since the previous match, league games straight after a cup or European match, the last game before an international break, kick-off day and time, forecast weather and temperature, previous result, after scoring or conceding first, half-time situation, shot and defensive structure, and team win rate by player involvement (started, came off the bench, did not play). Referee records appear only when they differ clearly from the team’s usual rate.

How it is built

  • Sources: fixtures, line-ups, events and player statistics from API-Football; match-day weather and kick-off forecasts from Open-Meteo; club crests from Wikimedia public files.
  • Method: win rate is wins divided by games, always shown with the W-D-L record. “Usual” is the team’s overall league win rate over the same window, and gaps are given in percentage points. Conditional statistics use league games only; recent form and rest days count all competitions.
  • Sample size: statistics from fewer than ten games are still shown, faded and marked “sample too small”. Conditions with no games are left out.
  • Notation: the home team always comes first in every table and sentence. Predicted absentee lists are not published because their accuracy cannot be guaranteed.
  • Updates: pages are published about three days before a round starts and refreshed one or two days before kick-off with the referee appointment (when announced) and the forecast. Pages are not edited after the match and results are not added.

What we do not do

We do not predict or recommend outcomes. We do not publish odds or probabilities, and we do not say which side is favoured. We split the records by condition and leave the judgement to you.
